A Bit Of Internet History

The Internet is perhaps the greatest catalyst of change since the printing press. As the name of the open sourced software WordPress implies, it places the educational and life transforming power of the printing press into a computer user’s hands. But even after being equipped with websites, the writers are still faced with the daunting task of breaking through all the “information overload” and reaching their intended audiences.Image result for internet

The hyperlink (that small section of blue text that magically wisks the viewer to another page or website) is the foundation of the Internet and the placement of “a link” on other websites has been, from the beginning of the Internet, a very important goal and even a key towards getting traffic to a website. There was always a sort of cooperative nature to the Internet where, in a spirit of helping a visitor find more resources, a web master would provide links to other websites. But the basic laws of economics and supply and demand caused that simple foundation to grow towards things such as “reciprocal linking” (i.e. I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine”). Large numbers of links would begin to become unwieldy so they started to be organized by topics into “web directories” (like the Yellow Pages of the previous land-line phone era).

As the Internet and the number of websites continued to boom, even web directories got very large (research D.M.O.Z. and Yahoo) but around that time the search engines arrived. In their earliest forms, search engines were offered to visitors as an alternate to web directory visitors as a last attempt to find a resource that was not found IN the directory. Google originally had been contracted by Yahoo to provide search capabilities for Yahoo visitors. So, while search engines helped end users find websites more easily and quicker, it actually exacerbated the task of the web master to break through the “information overload” and reaching their intended audiences.

Search Engine Results Pages (S.E.R.P.S) are limited just like web directory results pages and can only present a limited number of links at one time (otherwise viewers get overwhelmed). Studies also showed a tendency for people to almost always click the first few results and rarely even go beyond the first S.E.R.P. (even if millions of results were found). Again, the basic laws of economics and supply and demand caused entirely new ways to meter web traffic to even fewer websites. Two distinct and totally different systems evolved from this situation: 1) Search Engine Optimization (S.E.O.) and 2) Pay Per Click (P.P.C.). S.E.O. are proposed to “trick” the search engines into placing a website ahead of competing websites and their services have grown into a big business with perhaps millions of companies offering to get a website to the top of the S.E.R.P.S by putting the “right” mix of words and links and other “secret sauce” to a web page. The system begs a two part question, however, and that is: Where does this so-called expert at S.E.O. rank when one does a search for S.E.O. companies? Since there are millions of S.E.O. related websites on the Internet, and they can’t all get on the first S.E.R.P., and, then, the second part of the question is if they can’t get their own site to the first S.E.R.P., why would they be able to get mine there? The other system, the Pay Per Click [P.P.C.]) system, enables web site operators to bid and compete for the top positions in the S.E.R.P.S while, at the same time, enabling search engine companies to monetize the web traffic from their S.E.R.P.S..

An important (from our perspective) off shoot of the P.P.C. system is the area of ad networks (which is the one that the Manna Network is positioning itself). The largest ad network, by far, is Google’s Adsense/Adwords. Google offers free code to website operators which, after being placed on a website,  enables 1) the website visitor to view ads (placed by Google)  AND 2) to log that the visitor clicked the ad/link and visited the advertiser’s site. Because Google can verify the “click” they can now both charge the advertiser and share the revenue with the hosting website (hence the name “Pay Per Click”). The accuracy of the search engine algorithms in determining what topic a web page is about is crucial to the P.P.C. system because the search engine’s automation is the sole method to determining what ads will be placed there. A mismatch of what the hosting site is about could easily result in a totally misappropriate advertisement.

How The Current Ad Network System Fails Web Site Operators

As this screenshot from W3Techs shows, the vast majority of website operators don’t use ad networks. Why don’t 72.1 % of website operators add a little bit of code to their website and earn money from the web traffic coming to their site? Why have some of the top Internet companies (Google, Amazon, Yahoo, Microsoft etc) failed to attract more users? Well, some web site operators don’t want their visitors to leave (especially after working so hard to get them to begin with). But another reason may be that the web site operator may not care about the usually trivial amounts of money the networks pay. Another is that web site operators are usually more interested in getting web traffic than in selling it.

Manna Network Aims to Change All That!

The Manna Network System

  1. Advocates a combination of “bartering” AND sales to increase BOTH web traffic and income for operators.
  2. Advocates that web site operators promote web directories (instead of search engines)
  3. Distributes the web directories (complete with categories, links, and management) to web sites for free
  4. Meters (or allocates) advertiser position in the directory by competitive bidding (like P.P.C.)
  5. Returns all proceeds (over and above expenses) to the sites hosting the web directories

Ways To Invest

1) With Your Web Traffic –

  • Install the free Manna Network software on your website and your traffic may spill over into our network. Our members become agents for the Network’s traffic so when you install the web directory script you basically help “stock our shelves”.

2) With Bitcoin

  • Buy advertising with BitcoinSV – All of our advertising requires BitcoinSV to purchase and “sales” during this beginning phase are much more difficult than they will be once the system starts growing. We do offer free advertising as a way to enable us to introduce the system and we also offer a free “demo” version by providing free advertising credits that advertisers can use to bid for better positions (ahead of the free customers). Therefore, we can’t honestly say that there is any benefit to financially contribute at this early date since you can register, advertise and get some of the best advertising positions for free. What we offer is the potential that your BitcoinSV deposit will be usable in the future against other users that come into the system after you and use their free demo coins to get better positions. As initial investors, you are agreeing that the Manna Network will be able to use your deposit for development and that you forgo the ability to get a refund ( as we will be offering future advertisers).
  • Donate BitcoinSV – As in any other crowd funding campaign, we greatly appreciate “angel investing” in any amount. Contributors don’t need to register or advertise a website.
